US Samsung Galaxy S3 Won’t Melt Your Butter So Fast

Smartphone makers consider the Snapdragon S4 processor from Qualcomm to be the most wanted processor of this year. We’ve seen the top Android smartphones already boast it. In the US alone, the AT&T HTC One X, Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE and the 5 US carrier variants of the Samsung Galaxy S3 all boast S4 chipsets. Now Qualcomm has managed to get some very impressive performance numbers along with connectivity for LTE into the chip and it is the most efficient on the market today. One of the benefits is its heat efficiency and this was put to the test in a recent ‘butter’ benchmark, proving that is really is the coolest kid on the block.

US Samsung Galaxy S3 & HTC One X won’t melt your butter so fast thanks to the S4 inside

Qualcomm could have just stuck with showing us thermal images of devices using the chip and phones performing what they describe as being intensive CPU tasks. However they decided to go for a more fun approach by putting sticks of butter on top of handsets and then seeing which melts the slowest. While this is not a very scientific approach it does show just how cool their processor really is. The competitor’s handsets simply melted away the butter at an astonishing rate while that on the Snapdragon S4 processor melted very slowly.

As this is not a state of the art test it can be carried out at home. All you need is three phones with different processors, Ziploc bags to cover the phones; otherwise you will end up with a sticky mess, and sticks of butter. Of course do not do it as it would be ridiculous to have to return your Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X to the manufacturer for insurances claims against “butter” damage.

On a side note, in addition to the US Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X models running the Snapdragon S4 dual-core processors, rumors suggest that Motorola’s upcoming flagship phone, the DROID RAZR HD, may follow suit and go with the same instead of a TI OMAP chip.
